Do you like cats? Do you like correct grammar? Of course you do, you’re on Tumblr! Luckily, there’s one more blog with a healthy dose of both, and it belongs to my sister, Tamara When Tamara’s not chronically annoying me, she’s studying to become a vet. If you’re lucky she might post photos of the INSIDE of cats! Hurray! Anyway, follow her because she needs...

My Holiday Project
With a month left before university starts again, it has finally happened. I’m bored. With nothing but fruitless job interviews and soulless net surfing to occupy my time, I’ve decided that the only way to combat my current state of apathy is to take on a new project. And what better project is there than myself? With much consideration, I’ve decided to Dukan.  For those of you...

Still on holidays at Surfer’s Paradise so I’ve been really lax on the whole blogging thing. But rest assured that I’m having an awesome time. I know you must all be relieved. In between lazing by the beach and buying stupid expensive bikinis, I had the time to apply for a job I really, really want. It’s as a gaming video journalist, and yes I would do some horrible,...

How would you mess with your body's blueprints?
Let’s live in a hypothetical world for a second. Science has progressed to the point whereby the human body can be easily tampered with. I’m not talking about boring stuff like choosing to have blonde hair, a faster metabolism or sturdy knees. Science got creative and did some really screwed up things, like growing bottle openers on arms and making keychains form themselves out of hip...

Perhaps some of my (very few) followers have noticed that I’ve been a little quiet on the blogging sphere of late. Please everyone, feel free to exhale your held breath and worry not about my absence. I’m on holidays, you see, which means that books and the beach have become my new internet. I’m spending the next few days at Surfers Paradise in Queensland, if you’re...

Apple douchebag, you TOLD me this laptop had Lion installed. You TOLD me that. What you said was, in fact, a lie. A BIG fucking lie. NOW the 30 day period in which I could claim the update has expired and I want to find you and CHEW YOUR FACE OFF. That way, any future lies you want to blab out will be muffled by your HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE scars.  I’m so angry, I wrote this poem: Apple man,...

I think that everyone should take a second to reassess what they’ve listed as their ‘favourite books’ on Facebook. We can ALL tell when you’ve mentioned a novel that you were forced to skim read once at uni. Repent, wanker!

Kyle Sandilands needs to be removed from the media...
For those of you who aren’t aware of what shock jock Kyle Sandilands has done this time, here’s the article. In brief, Sandilands referred to a female journalist as a ‘fat slag’, commented on the size of her “titties”, called her a piece of shit and even went as far as to threaten to ‘hunt her down’ in a vitriolic and threatening rant.  Of course,...

England's New Law.
England, being both a devotee of channel 4 and having travelled extensively in your country, a serious problem has come to my attention. Unfortunately, too many of you are completely clueless about interior design. No, having an entire house painted moss green is not okay, nor are clashing floral patterns. Heaven forbid I see another home with both. As a result of you flagrantly disobeying the...

So this just happened: I painstakingly saved a particularly hoppy green tree frog, and placed it under a cool, shady bush. 45 minutes later (perhaps in way of reward) a SLUG fell out of my HAIR. What the hell mother nature? AND THEN I felt bad the slug would die on my floor, so I had to rescue it as well. Caring is a burden.

iPad, hidden threat?
If God had installed Angry Birds on the 10 commandments, he’d have tablets that could compete with the iPad. But, as Apple strides past its competitors, it appears that not even divine intervention could slow down this juggernaut. Among the iPad’s many attributes, people have dichotomously hailed it as both the future and the end of traditional print media. Surely anything with such...

Just got this comment on my ‘feminism’ post and thought I’d throw it to the blogging sphere. Note: I’m quite champagned-up, so I’m not entirely certain this post/my response/ anything said in the last 3 hours makes sense.   “you support feminism yet have pictures of yourself on here showing half of your butt..bit contradictory as those pictures are...

Feminism
I hate it when people preface a comment with “I’m no feminist but…”. You’re not a feminist? That’s cool, I always thought the right to vote was a little overrated myself. Frankly, I’d much rather “love and obey” my husband than live a fulfilled and autonomous life anyway.  You see, this stereotyping of feminists as cranky and emotional is just...

UTS vs CSU
This was an article that I was writing for the University of Technology’s paper, Vertigo. I never finished it (crippled by my laziness and feelings of inadequacy). But looking at it now, I think it was okay, if a little muddled.  “You’re not from the country, you’re not from the country” was the mantra that ran through my head as I tentatively walked through the doors of UTS’s infamous tower...

As if we needed another reason to stop smoking.
With no smokers in my immediate family, for a long time cigarettes were a terribly foreign object with a dark, forbidden appeal. I heard as much as any kid that smoking was bad, but the danger seemed unreal. In fact, I only held my first cigarette when I was 16 (not in teenage rebellion, I needed it for a fancy-dress party). As I got older, things only got worse. I would look at men who smoked...

This is just a quick video blog explaining my research into the print media’s coverage of the Fukushima nuclear accident.  Sorry this is a crappy computer-camera upload, I’m super lazy and couldn’t be bothered getting the big guns out.  Note: I realise “psyche” wasn’t really the right word in that context, but in my defence I was concentrating really hard on not...

Blackbird, I know you’re supposed to bring joy to people with your beautiful song and whatever, but if I see you on my blueberry bush ONE MORE TIME you’re in serious trouble. Those are MY blueberries. MINE!  So help me God, if I catch you, I’m going to beat you so good that even THINKING of blueberries will turn you into a “white-as-a-ghost” bird, you’ll be so...

Once there were two penguins called Arthur and Martha standing on a cold ice shelf. Arthur had known and loved Martha since they were both eggs, but had trouble admitting his feelings.  “Oi Martha,” said Arthur, mustering his confidence “why don’t you come and waddle over here and keep a penguin warm” “As if,” said Martha “I’m not screwing...

Linking Google stats to this tumblr has been VERY interesting. I’ve noticed some strange spikes in unique views for certain posts, whilst others go unnoticed. I think it’s time for some good ol’ experimenting. Hypothesis: Photos of cats increase unique viewer numbers. Photos of people holding cats will boost numbers the most significantly.  Variables: Attractiveness of people,...

Reporting on Fukushima Nuclear Disaster
This graph was based on data derived from a source analysis of over 500 newspaper articles on Fukushima from The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian and the Daily Telegraph. And let me tell you, I’ve been pretty generous with who I put in the ‘no bias’ section. I’ll post more on this as I finish my conclusions and research, but I think this is a liiiiiiittle...

How to procrastinate like Stephanie
Check the fridge: Just because you’ve done it 20 times already doesn’t mean you know what’s in there. Maybe if you move that curdled yoghurt to the left you might find a forgotten treat! No? Next time, then.  Read smh.com: It’s news, so you’re not procrastinating, you’re doing extra learning. It’s like credit in the university of life! Go for a walk:...

5 Kilos
It’s no secret that I used to be a porky kid. I refer to it as my ‘festively rotund’ phase, but the fact is when I stopped eating mars bars, company shares dropped. Even though I was never large enough that I risked fusing to my lounge, it was good that I lost a few kilos when I was about 18. But whilst I’m a very happy person with a relatively healthy attitude to my body, deep down I think that...
